But when he calls on the Holy Spirit and completes that awesome sacrifice, he lays hold of the one who is the common Master of all. In what order shall we place him? Tell me. How much purity and piety shall we demand of him? Ponder what kind of hands a priest should have to serve at such things and what sort of tongue pours forth those kind of words. And who should not be purer and holier than the soul that received such a Spirit. Then too the angels serve the priest and the entire order of heavenly powers cries out loud. The place around the altar is brimming with these for the honor of him who lies there. And this is sufficient to be persuaded of those things then being accomplished.
Ὅταν δὲ καὶ τὸ Πνεῦμα τὸ ἅγιον καλῇ καὶ τὴν φρικωδεστάτην ἐπιτελῇ θυσίαν καὶ τοῦ κοινοῦ πάντων συνεχῶς ἐφάπτηται δεσπότου, ποῦ τάξομεν αὐτόν, εἰπέ μοι; πόσην δὲ αὐτὸν ἀπαιτήσομεν καθαρότητα καὶ πόσην εὐλάβειαν; Ἐννόησον γὰρ ὁποίας τὰς ταῦτα διακονουμένας χεῖρας εἶναι χρή, ὁποίαν τὴν γλῶτταν τὴν ἐκεῖνα προχέουσαν τὰ ῥήματα, τίνος δὲ οὐ καθαρωτέραν καὶ ἁγιωτέραν τὴν τοσοῦτο πνεῦμα ὑποδεξομένην ψυχήν. Τότε καὶ ἄγγελοι παρεστήκασι τῷ ἱερεῖ καὶ οὐρανίων δυνάμεων ἅπαν τὸ βῆμα καὶ ὁ περὶ τὸ θυσιαστήριον πληροῦται τόπος εἰς τιμὴν τοῦ κειμένου. Καὶ τοῦτο ἱκανὸν μὲν καὶ ἐξ αὐτῶν πεισθῆναι τῶν ἐπιτελουμένων τότε.
